Since most people dress their children in traditional outfits for portraits, I offer a portrait special once a year to celebrate color. When the mother of these boys contacted me and asked if Saints jersey were colorful enough, I thought “why not?” This is the year of the Saints in New Orleans, plus it is only fitting to get portraits done in outfits your children feel comfortable wearing. What better way to celebrate being a boy than getting your picture taken in a jersey with a helmut and footballs…too cute! I loved how the two of them played football and got along so well throughout the session. Thanks for the opportunity to photograph them! To view all the images, please visit the slideshow here! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

I have never been so excited for it to be Ash Wednesday. I think we are all exhausted because New Orleans has been in the celebrating mood since Christmas due to the Saints’s successful football season and carnival season. Mardi Gras was yesterday, so today feels like a new year. My favorite parts of the carnival season (besides King Cake) are the Flambeaux (Keepers of the Light) and the bands. This year the Saints played a big role in the festivities. In fact, Drew Brees was the King of Bacchus, which led to a huge amount of people waiting along St. Charles Avenue for a glimpse of the Superbowl M.V.P. Here are some of my favorite images from the parades. To view a complete slideshow of all the images , please visit my website at www.jessicabachmann.com/mardigras Thanks!

Recently, I got to photograph “A” for the third time! I also photographed her parent’s wedding, which makes her very special to me. I loved that her mom contacted me to do a shoot at a different location. We had a blast on the carousel, meeting the tortoise and just climbing on the benches. The zoo is such a magical place! Plus, she wore the cutest little red dress, coat and hat, which made her big blue eyes sparkle in contrast. Thanks to her mom from thinking outside the box for this session and for having such a cute little girl! The following are some of my favorite images from the session.

I love weddings! In fact, if I am not booked with one of my own weddings, I will gladly second shoot for other photographers if they call me requesting help. I enjoy second shooting because it is not as stressful. I still strive to get the best and most beautiful images I can capture for the couple, but I can relax and give them a different perspective than the main photographer. It is a fun change of pace. Unfortunately, I often photograph the event and then neglect to do anything with the images besides doing a quick review to see what I got. Part of the arrangement I have as a second shooter is that I have the opportunity to use the images in my folio. Today, I decided I should start doing that. The following are some of my favorites from a reception I worked as a second shooter for Charlotte Latham. I always have fun working with her, and this wedding was a blast. They second lined from Pat O’Brien’s and then had a reception that included a man hand-rolling cigars at “Court of Two Sisters” in the French Quarter. Thanks!

Sorry I haven’t posted in such a long time….I do not have a good excuse….I have been photographing portraits and weddings, but not blogging. First, I want to say “Hooray for the Saints” or “Who Dat?!” Between the Saint’s Superbowl Win and this weeks Mardi Gras Parades/Celebrations, I know this is going to be an awesome time to be living in New Orleans.
Another reason it is a great time to be in New Orleans is because it is so full of life….literally there are women everywhere that are pregnant. It seems like we are having a babyboom! This beautiful mama to be is surrounded by life….she even owns a fabulous boutique named “Life” on Magazine Street. I am honored to have had the chance to photograph her pregnancy portraits, and I cannot wait to meet the baby, who is due on my birthday! Here are some of my favorites from the session. Thanks!

I love to get a sneak peak of my brides before their wedding day. Jamie gave me that honor when she asked me to photograph her Bridal Formal Portrait. City Park proved to be a gorgeous backdrop for her images. She looked so beautiful and happy! The wind was aweful that day, but she was a trooper. I love how her gown goes so well with her skin tones, and how awesome she looks in profile, too. Thanks!

It seems like there is a baby-boom going on in New Orleans. I now of at least 7 women that are pregnant. I can’t wait to meet all these babies. I loved photographing this little boy, and I can’t wait to watch him grow!

Every few months, I get a call from a national company to do some freelance work. Basically, I go to a school that has hired them to design a new website. My job is to go and explore the school both inside and outside, and document it via my photography. I love getting these calls because it means I get to see all the creative things going on at the school. Right before the holidays, I got the call and headed out to a New Orleans Charter School. Although my guide told me how they are over-crowded and have had to deal with buchet cuts, I know the kids will do well because they are being taught the importance of being themselves. With just the help of paint, construction paper, scissors and pastels, these children have been able to display their remarkable creativity. This is why I love being a photographer! Just look at how each face is different and each Santa is unique. I remember always having to make my work look like the sample the teacher showed us….I think that this is a new way of teaching art, and I like it!

You might remember this couple from their engagement session in beautiful Napa Valley. I got the pleasure of photographing Crissy & Stephen’s wedding the day after Christmas. What a festive and fun event!! I love Christmas and I love weddings. Thanks for letting me document your big day!

I am finally back on track after a crazy busy holiday portrait / wedding season. I have been working today at catching up on everything that I have neglected during the last two months…which includes my blog. As promised here are some samples of a recent engagement session. I had a lot of fun getting to know Jamie and Kevin as we made our way around the French Quarter.
